Misión Cumplida! / Mission accomplished!

A Germán le fue bien en su cita médica ayer. El especialista de higado va a dar su visto bueno para proseguir con el transplante (de médula). Esperamos estarnos yendo a Los Angeles durante las próximas semanas. Los doctores tendrán que coordinar todo con el donante lo antes posible.

Con mucho agradecimiento les contamos que hemos alcanzado la meta de USD $10,000 de recoleccion de fondos. Estamos muy agradecidos. Germán tiene muchos amigos maravillosos, y me siento bendecida de poder decir que son amigos mios tambien. Nos sentimos muy amados.

German's appointment went well yesterday. The liver specialist will recommend he move to (bone marrow) transplant. We are expecting to go to Los Angeles in the next few weeks. The doctors will need to coordinate everything with the donor as soon as possible.

We are very grateful to report that we have reached the $10,000 fundraising goal. We are so thankful. German has so many wonderful friends and I feel blessed to call you all my friends. We feel so loved.

Alejandro Pardo nos cuenta que el concierto "Todos con los Ojos Rojos contra la Leucemia" fue todo un éxito. Entre ventas de boletas y donaciones se obtuvieron USD$ 1,440 adicionales para Germán y Christi, un resultado increíble. Bravo a Alejandro, Juan Carlos, Sergio, amigos y familias por organizarlo todo y por las generosas contribuciones. 

Ya estamos muy, muy cerca a la meta de USD$10,000. Un esfuerzito de aguinaldos y llegamos. Así que por favor sigan compartiendo esto con todos sus círculos!

Alejandro Pardo tells us that the "Todos con los Ojos Rojos contra la Leucemia" fundraising concert was a smashing success. Between ticket sales and donations, they managed to raise an additional $ 1,440 for Germán and Christi, an incredible result. Bravo to Alejandro, Juan Carlos, Sergio, friends and families for making it happen and for the generous contributions.

We are very, very close to the $10,000 target. A little Yuletide effort will surely get us there. Therefore, please do continue sharing this amongst your circles!

Update from Christi and Germán

We had a lovely weekend and are really enjoying our time together at home. The hospital did not have ESPN so German is glad to have all his football channels again!

We watched the concert from the livestream on Thursday night and it felt like we were there. Diego stayed up late so he could be there too. We saw many friends in the crowd and we are so thankful for everything that everyone has done for us! We can truly feel the love and good vibes coming our way :-)

On Thursday we saw German's doctor and he told us German is officially in remission. His blood counts are recovering nicely and he is now able to eat a regular diet. He was happy to eat fresh fruit again! We are meeting with the transplant doctor on Friday, November 11th to discuss the plans for his transplant. He also has an appointment with the liver specialist on the 17th so they can evaluate his liver carefully before moving to the transplant. We are very hopeful the transplant will be the next step in his treatment and will cure him of everything!

We are so grateful to share the campaign has raised $7,500 for our family! Words can not adequately express our appreciation.

Ayer hablé con Germán, más o menos 35 segundos (porque la llamada se cortó ahí mismo) y me contó que estaba en la playa. Lo oí muy feliz, celebrando la vida y respirando sus primeros días fuera del hospital.

Great News

Today, after 38 days in the hospital, Germán was released. Tonight, he'll be sleeping at home, with his wonderful wife, Christi and son Diego, who is five months old today. Germán is truly happy, celebrating the simple pleasures of life, small things, like deciding what he should have for dinner.

Though there's nothing better for him than being at home, surrounded by his loving family, it's important to remember that there is still a long road ahead. Germán's doctors must still make decisions about his bone marrow transplant, and in the medium term, he'll have to be much stronger, be 100% recovered to be able to work again.

So I'm asking you not to slow your efforts on his behalf. Let's stay active and show solidarity with Germán, so that he may recover completely and get back to his normal life.

BUENAS NOTICIAS!

Hoy, después de 38 días en el hospital, Germán fue dado de alta. Esta noche podrá dormir en su casa, en compañía de su maravillosa Christi y de Diego, que hoy está cumpliendo 5 meses. Está verdaderamente feliz, haciendo cálculos con los placeres sencillos de la vida, como lo que va a comer esta tarde.

Aunque no hay nada mejor para él que estar en su hogar, rodeado del amor de su familia, es muy importante recordar que a Germán todavía le espera un largo camino para recuperarse. Falta que los médicos tomen decisiones sobre el transplante de médula y algunos otros asuntos inmediatos. Y en el mediano plazo, tendrá que mejorarse 100% para poder retomar la vida laboral.

Les pido que no bajemos los brazos. Sigamos muy activos y solidarios para que este man se pueda curar bien y con tranquilidad.

Concierto en Bogotá para Germán / Concert in Bogotá for Germán

Sigue la movilización de los amigos!

Alejandro Pardo y Sergio Cartwright nos informan:

"El jueves 3 de noviembre tendremos un concierto para recaudar fondos para Germán. El grupo es la legendaria banda cartagenera "Los Ojos Rojos". Los Cocoons vamos a abrir con 4 temitas.

El concierto será en La Hamburgueseria de la 85 (calle 85# 12-49) a las 11pm. La idea es cobrar una contribución mínima de 50 mil pesos, pero solicitar contribuciones mayores a los que quieran y puedan".

Mas información proximamente. 

Alejandro mandó tambien unas fotos recientes con Juan Carlos en California. Miren los albumes. Gracias Doctor!

Latest news from German:

• His liver continues to improve
• His blood count is getting better every day
• Doctors have already begun to speak of a possible date for returning home
• They are still waiting for the biopsy results which will determine whether they decide on a second consolidation chemo or they go straight for the marrow transplant in L.A.
• It seems that the transplant should cure both the MS and the AML

Other good news are that we made good progress over the past few days to wards the fundraising target of $10,000 – Christi said that they have received a total of $5,900 !!

Thanks so much to everyone for your contributions. We have now crossed the halfway mark, but we still must pass the endurance test to reach the $10,000 target. Please continue to share this across your networks.

Ultimas noticias de Germán:

• Su hígado sigue mejorándose
• Su conteo sanguíneo se está mejorando día a día
• Ya los médicos están hablando de posible fecha de retorno a casa
• Están todavía esperando resultados de biopsia para determinar si hacen una segunda quimio de consolidación o si ya se van a Los Ángeles a hacer el trasplante de médula.
• El trasplante parece que debería curar tanto la LMA, como la MS

Otra buena noticia es que avanzamos bien durante los últimos días hacia la meta de USD $10,000 – Christi informa que han recibido un total de $5,900 !!

Muchas, muchas gracias a todos por sus contribuciones. Ya pasamos la mitad del camino, pero nos falta ahora la prueba de resistencia para lograr los $10,000. Ánimo, por favor sigan compartiendo esto con sus redes.

Gilma y noticias de hoy

Ajá.

Hoy hablé un buen rato con Germán y con Christi. Germán estaba recuperandose de otra biopsia de médula (aguja bien larga insertada en el hueso de la cadera) que le hicieron hoy, cuyos resultados en unos 3 o 4 dias van a determinar si le hacen otra quimio de consolidación, o si se van mas bien directo al transplante de médula (que se lo harian en Los Angeles) con unos de los dos donantes identificados (esto en si es casi un milagro: encontrar a alguen con el DNA parecido al de Germán , quien iba a pensar que había semejante coctel cromosómico repetido en otra parte del planeta???). Lo biopsia de higado salió bien, no tiene plastos de MS en el higado y se le ha ido mejorando cada dia. Lo del transplante en LA en cambio significa que les toca irse a vivir alla como 5 semanas mientras los médicos monitorean que el cuerpo no rechazo la médula ....

Pero tanto Germán como Christi estaban bien positivos, las noticias del higado sano son muy buenas, asi como las de los dos donantes (a falta de uno!). Estoy seguro que les ha subido el espiritu el apoyo de todos sus amigos, asi que hay que seguir llamando (y donando, doña Gloria)!

Germán tambien conto que Gilma feliz con su nieto, pero que en cambio "lo seguia molestando con lo mismo toda la vida. El otro dia llego a la clinica y yo me estaba bañando y que dizque 'German salga ya de la ducha!'"
